Kelly Rowland accepted her fiance's proposal via Skype "years" ago.

The former Destiny's Child singer sparked rumours she became engaged to boyfriend Tim Witherspoon last month when she was seen wearing a diamond ring on her wedding finger.

She opened up about how Tim asked her to be his wife during an interview on The Queen Latifah Show on Monday.

"He put a ring on it," she gushed, adding Tim popped the question a "while" ago during an online chat while she was in Bulgaria.

"He asked me first on Skype," she confessed, "and I was like, 'We're so far away from each other.'"
Nevertheless, it was a romantic moment.

"I remember we were both just kinda like, honestly, just staring at each other. And he asked me, and it was just that simple to say yes. I was like, 'I got my best friend to ride through life with.' He really is my best friend," she said.

Kelly also admitted she's been engaged for far longer than rumours have been swirling.

The 32-year-old star is notorious for keeping her private life out of the public eye but has felt compelled to share the happy news recently.

"It's been a while," she said. "We've kept it very, very low - for years, to be completely honest."

This would be Kelly's first marriage. She was previously engaged to American football player Roy Williams. The couple split two months before their wedding in January 2005.
