Katy Perry is not engaged to boyfriend John Mayer say friends.
She set tongues wagging with a diamond ring worn on her wedding finger, but sources have confirmed that it was in fact just a piece of jewellery that was picked because it matched her mint green dress.
The Roar singer’s left hand caught the attention of onlookers at this weekend’s MTV EMA awards, when she flashed a sparkler.
"She's not engaged. It was just a ring that went with the outfit,” a close source told Us Magazine.
Although no engagement has yet been announced, and Katy’s rep won’t comment on her personal life, friends say it is only a matter of time before the pair gets hitched.
Katy and John have been dating for 16 months, with a brief split earlier this year, but sources say they are now more committed than ever.
"Everyone knows it's just a question of when John will propose. They realise they must be together," a pal previously told the magazine.
29-year-old Katy was married once before to comedian Russell Brand, but the nuptials ended in divorce in 2012.
Being with a musician has meant both Katy and John get to travel with one another, which she admits strengthens their relationship.
"I think so,” she said on bonding while they travel together. “But, John's away at the moment so he couldn't be here. He has an event."
Despite the frenzy surrounding her own fingers, Katy seemed to have a different set of hands on her mind following last night’s EMA win.
She took to her Twitter account earlier today to thank her fans for voting her Best Female, affectionately calling them her kittens.
“Meow out to all the kittens and all the voting they did with their precious paws to win me Best Female last night @MTVEMA,” she posted to her 47million followers.
