Following the recent release of her UK Top 10 album Fire Within and a sold-out UK tour, British singer/songwriter Birdy has announced details of her brand new single ‘Light Me Up’, which will release on December 9 via 14th Floor/Atlantic Records.
Speaking about the new single, an empowering and upbeat track about the feeling of being close to and completely in tune with someone, which Birdy worked on with Rich Costey (Arctic Monkeys, Sigur Ros) and Ryan Tedder (Beyonce) Birdy says – “I’m really excited about releasing Light Me Up. It has a bit of an 80's feel and it's really up-beat, it's a sound that no one's heard from me before. I can’t wait to share the video with you all!”
Fire Within sees Birdy come to the forefront as a songwriter in her own right, having written/co-written the entire 11 album tracks. She worked with the likes of Ryan Tedder (Beyonce), Dan Wilson (co-wrote and produced ‘Someone Like You’ for Adele) and Ben Lovett from Mumford & Sons, whom she’s collaborated with in the past. Fire Within charted at #8 in the Official UK Album Chart in September and has proved to be huge global success. The album debuted in the top 10 in Switzerland, Belgium, Holland, France, Germany, Ireland, Austria, Australia and New Zealand. Furthermore, Birdy’s recent single ‘Wings’ also proved to be a big success and reached #1 in official singles chart in Ireland last week.
From recently selling-out three nights at the Sydney Opera House to performing at London’s Paralympic Opening Ceremony, Birdy is building her career to great heights.
