Having already been crowned the fastest selling single of 2013, ‘Wake Me Up!’ continues to dominate both the airwaves and the charts.
Holding off One Direction’s new single ‘Best Song Ever’ to keep the No.1 spot in the UK charts for the second week in a row on Sunday, ‘Wake Me Up!’ has gone gold in the UK in just two weeks, the first single this year to do so with over 420,000 singles sold.
This success coincides with the unveiling of the stunning official video for the single today, which is directed by revered American photographer Mark Seliger, who has shot everyone from The Rolling Stones to Kurt Cobain and covers for the likes of GQ and Vanity Fair, and produced by At Night Studios.
Echoing the poignant sentiment of the track and featuring beautifully panoramic cinematography, the video follows two young sisters who are outcasts in their own town in search of somewhere they truly belong. Connecting the narrative with live footage of Avicii performing at Ultra Music Festival, where he first premiered the single, the video embodies both the infectious energy and the emotive lyricism of the track.
Titled ‘True’, Avicii’s debut album is set to be released by PRMD and Positiva on 16th September and is available to pre-order now. A selection of material from the forthcoming record was first premiered alongside a live band during Avicii’s performance at this year’s Ultra Music festival Miami, a move that indicates the artist’s personal and unprecedented approach to the format. Giving an insight into what people can expect from the album when it drops, Avicii says:
"This is about me being true to my sound but also to my own influences and musical preferences. This album consists 100% of songs I personally love. It's true to me, true to my brand, true to Avicii."
‘True’ is due to be released by PRMD / Positiva on 16th September 2013.
