Demi Lovato respects her friend Selena Gomez as they have “been through a lot together”.

The Disney duo met on the set of Barney & Friends in 2002 and maintained a friendship for years.

Demi revealed in 2010 that the pair had ended communication seemingly due to trust issues but recently reunited.

"We've been through a lot together, we've had periods of times we here we grew apart and we just didn't really talk,"

she told Live From MTV. "Now we are in a place where I think we realised that life is so short and that when you have people in your life that love you so much then, you should just always be around them."

Now they have settled their differences, the X Factor USA judge wants to see Selena enjoy her expanding family.

Selena will be a big sister soon as her mother Mandy is currently pregnant.

Demi thinks Selena has grown up to be a wonderful person and can benefit from a new friendship.

"She's going to be a big sister, and I want to be around for that,” she explained. “Everything about her, she has a great soul, she's talented, she's beautiful, and she will always be really, really close to my heart."

Demi revealed that she and the singer are not at a point where they are speaking every day.

But she pointed out that irregular contact "doesn't invalidate" that they are supporting each other.

Selena recently said she "loves" Demi's new single Heart Attack and praised that she has her “own individual style”.

Demi is fan of Selena professionally too, especially her new track Come & Get It.

"I went on vacation in Barbados, and that's all I listened to, and that's all me and my other friends blared,” she confessed. “And when it comes on the radio, I turn it up really loud and tell everyone to shut up unless they are singing it, but it's so awesome to see her come so far."
