Michael Jackson’s former criminal defence lawyer Tom Mesereau will do everything in his power to uphold his late client’s “strong reputation”.
Mr. Mesereau represented Michael during the late King of Pop’s infamous 2005 child molestation trial, where he was found not guilty of all charges.
Jackson family matriarch Katherine filed a wrongful death lawsuit against concert promoter AEG Live accusing the company of helping to cause Michael’s death by “pressuring him to prepare for his 2009 comeback concerts, despite his fragile health”. The case also points the finger at AEG claiming executives’ decision to hire doctor Conrad Murray, who was convicted of Michael’s manslaughter in 2011, led to the singer’s death.
Two groups of 35 prospective jurors were being considered on Tuesday as the AEG case goes to trial.
Attorney Mesereau will testify on behalf of the Jacksons.
“I’m on the plaintiff’s witness list because AEG Live plans on bringing up the 2005 molestation trial in which Michael Jackson was completely exonerated. I will be explaining to the jury that Michael was found not guilty on ten felony counts involving allegations of child molestation and abuse,” Mr. Mesereau told Radar Online. “Michael had a very strong reputation after the criminal trial and everywhere I went and spoke, people were always coming up to me offering their support – everyone was extremely positive.”
The suit was filed on behalf of Michael’s three children Prince, Paris and Blanket.
The late crooner’s daughter Paris recently sat for a deposition on the case and Mr. Mesereau is happy aid the family in any way he can during this trying time.
“Of course Michael wouldn’t want them to be in the media spotlight. However, Michael loved his mother and I think he would have understood her need to go through with this,” the lawyer explained.
“I’m sorry that the children and Katherine have to go through this ordeal, but it’s very important to them and I fully support them. This lawsuit absolutely has merit.”
Final jury selection for the AEG case is scheduled to occur in court on April 10.
