Michael Jackson’s former physician Conrad Murray has broken his silence from behind bars.
The former doctor was convicted of involuntary manslaughter in Michael Jackson's death and has been serving a four-year sentence in Los Angeles County Jail since November 2011.
Conrad recorded an interview with CNN on Friday and phoned into the network on Tuesday night for a special broadcast that marked his first interview since he landed behind bars.
The shamed practitioner, who has been stripped of his medical licence, used the time to profess his innocence, insisting he was simply "in the wrong place at the wrong time" when Michael died.
“I'm an innocent man... I maintain that innocence. I must tell you, I'm extremely sorry that Michael has passed," Conrad said.
“It's a tremendous loss for me, it's a burden I've been carrying for the longest while and it's a burden I will carry for an indefinite period of time."
Conrad insists he wasn’t given a fair trial and is appealing his case.
“[The] judge was not impartial,” he said.
A coroner ruled Michael died from acute propofol intoxication stemming from his use of the powerful sedative administered by Conrad to treat the singer’s insomnia as he prepared for his final concert series.
He passed away on June 25, 2009 at the age of 50.
“My entire approach may not have been an orthodox approach, but my intentions were good,” Conrad said.
His interview came just hours after jury selection began for the Jackson family’s trial against concert promoter AEG Live.
Michael's mother Katherine has filed suit against the company for being negligent in hiring the her late son’s doctor.
Two groups of 35 prospective jurors were being considered on Tuesday.
The final selection is scheduled to occur in court on April 10.
