Glee creator Ryan Murphy supports Cory Monteith’s decision to check into rehab “100 percent”.
The 30-year-old star of the hit US television musical confirmed through a representative on Sunday night he had entered a treatment facility for substance addiction.
Cory’s rep declined to elaborate on what substances landed him in treatment.
Shortly after the statement was released reports emerged the Canadian actor would miss tapings for the final two episodes of Glee’s fourth season.
Ryan said on Monday he is in full support of the actor’s decision to focus on his sobriety despite any glitches Cory’s absence may cause for production.
“I am so proud of Cory Monteith and love and support him 100%,” the producer tweeted his 434,000-plus followers.
Cory’s girlfriend and Glee co-star Lea Michele publicly offered her support for the actor on Sunday night.
“I love and support Cory and will stand by him through this,” Lea told People. “I am grateful and proud he made this decision.”
Deadline.com reports filming will continue as scheduled.
“Cory is a beloved member of the Glee family and we fully support his decision to seek treatment,” said a spokesperson for 20th Century Fox TV.
“Everyone at the show wishes him well and looks forward to his return.”
It is not Cory’s first time in rehab. He also entered treatment at age 19.
“[I did] anything and everything, as much as possible… I had a serious problem,” he confessed in a 2011 interview with Parade magazine.
Cory said he was speaking out in a bid to help others sharing his struggle.
"I don't want kids to think it's okay to drop out of school and get high, and they'll be famous actors, too," he said.
"But for those people who might give up: Get real about what you want and go after it.”
