Jessica Simpson has denied filing for divorce from her husband.

The singer-actress, who married singer Nick Lachey on MTV's "Newlyweds" reality TV series in October 2002, was falsely reported to have filed for divorce yesterday.

US celebrity news site Eonline.com also incorrectly stated that Simpson cited 'irreconcilable differences' for her split from Lachey after less than three years of marriage.

The story was then removed from the site and Simpson told rival gossip magazine Us Weekly: "It is completely false and we would sue them if they hadn't taken it down."

Eonline has since posted an online retraction of the story.

It reads: "[We] deeply regret that a draft report from E! Online, which contained some false information regarding the Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson marriage, was accidentally disseminated."

"The couple has not filed for divorce. [We] apologise to Nick, Jessica, their families and their fans for any distress this may have caused."

IMDB.com adds that "Jackass" star Bam Margera's parents told a radio station he was now dating Simpson, which he has strenuously denied.
