Taylor Swift feels “excitement and nerves” ahead of her MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) performance.

The singer will take to the stage at the event on September 6 and has been rehearsing hard. She loves the annual ceremony but admits worrying about getting her routine right.

“You get really nervous,” she said. “It's a mixture of all these emotions of excitement of nerves of planning, of making sure that you have enough rehearsal time, know all your blocking... 'cause the thing about the VMAs is, the people that help put together the performances are honestly some of the best people you have ever worked with.”

Taylor will debut a song from her new album Red at the event.

She has taken to the VMAs stage in the past and was famously slammed by Kanye West at the 2009 ceremony. Despite everything she’s gone through, Taylor still worries she’ll let herself down.

“'Do not mess this up everything will come crashing down if you mess it,’” she told MTV, when asked what she thinks about before performing. “It's a little more intense and the voice is a little meaner, but that's basically what happens."
