Jennifer Lopez admits she had an "emotional attachment” to American Idol.

The former judge on the talent show confessed that her decision to quit was a lot harder than people may think. Jennifer felt a strong connection to American Idol and leaving her "family" on the show wasn't easy.

"I don't think people realise how emotionally attached I got to the show, the people who work on the show...it's like a family," Jennifer explained to Australian radio show hosts Kyle and Jackie O.

"I loved it so much I stayed on for two years. I only signed a contract for one year! Idol took up a lot of time and at the end of the day I felt it was time to move on."

Mariah Carey has been confirmed as Jennifer's replacement for the new season. Jennifer is sure her fellow American singer will do a good job on the famous judging panel. The star believes that if Mariah is herself then there is no reason why she won't be a success.

"Mariah will do fine." Jennifer confirmed. "Will she be too soft? I don't know. I'm not too soft and I did fine and that's all I know."
