M.C. Hammer has revealed he could have married Whitney Houston.

The 50-year-old music star says Whitney’s father was eager for the pair to tie the knot. Hammer claims that Whitney’s dad John approached him about dating his daughter while they were attending the Super Bowl XXV in 1991 – where Whitney gave her iconic performance of The Star-Spangled Banner.

"Whitney's dad pulled me and Whitney in a room and said, ‘You know Hammer, you should really consider marrying Whitney.’ And, I said, ‘I'd love to but I'm already married,’" Hammer recalled in an interview with In the Mixx host Gina Glickman Giordan.

"I love my wife dearly but, I always laughed about that. Always a big fan of Whitney. I loved Whitney and miss her dearly."

At the time Hammer had recently celebrated his five-year anniversary with Stephanie Fuller.

The pair married in 1985 and they raise five children together.

Whitney passed away earlier this year aged 48.
