Robin Gibb’s official website has been updated to confirm that the Bee Gees star is in a coma.
At robingibb.com it now states, “Sadly the reports are true that Robin has contracted pneumonia and is in a coma. We are all hoping and praying that he will pull through”.
“Because of this situation, Robin’s website is temporarily unavailable. Sorry for any inconvenience”.
The 62-year old star has been fighting liver and colon cancer. His brother Barry, wife Dwina and children Melissa, Spencer and Robin-John have been keeping a bedside vigil with Robin in a London hospital.
Robin’s latest musical project Titanic premiered in London last week. Robin was too ill to attend the premiere.
His son Robin-John yesterday told the BBC, “He is still in hospital, he’s fighting infection and of course – as a lot of people who have family members or friends who endure cancer, they know – there are a lot of periphery problems afterwards they have to deal with.”
Robin, his twin brother Maurice and brother Barry collectively formed The Bees Gees in Brisbane, Australia in 1958. Robin and Maurice were 9-years old at the time. Barry was 12.
Their ‘Saturday Night Fever’ soundtrack became the biggest selling soundtrack of all-time, selling more than 15 million copies. It gave birth to the disco era with song like ‘Staying Alive’ and ‘Night Fever’.
