Aaron Eckhart Cast as Beach Boy Dennis Wilson in "The Drummer"

Actor Aaron Eckhart has been cast in the lead role of Dennis Wilson in the new film The Drummer.

The film, which will focus on the last six years of Wilson's life up to his drowning death in 1983, will be produced by Randall Miller and Jody Savin for Unclaimed Freight Productions. Savin is writing the screenplay while Miller will direct. Also producing is Brad Rosenberger who brought the story to the production company.

Also on board are Carl B. Wilson and Jennifer Wilson as co-producers and Beach Boys former manager James William Guerico as an executive producer.

According to sources, Eckhert is currently taking piano and drum lessons and will do his own singing in the picture. The timeframe for the film focuses on the recording of Wilson's last album, Pacific Ocean Blue.

Miller said "Aaron is such a finely nuanced actor who is supremely dedicated to getting at the essence of who this rock star was. There's a discovery about Dennis with this film. Everybody knows Brian, but nobody really knows Dennis' music."

The film should shoot next spring and summer.
