Mark Ronson performs tribute to Amy Winehouse with Boy George at ‘I want My MTV Ibiza’
Despite rain and thunder in Ibiza this weekend there’s still plenty of happy smiling faces on the island today after a blinding performance from Mark Ronson and The International live for I Want My MTV Ibiza at Amnesia last night. Mark was joined on stage by Boy George for a rendition of ‘Somebody to love me’ and the Culture Club Classic ‘Do You Really Want To Hurt Me’ and Kyle from The View made a surprise appearance to perform The Bicycle Song. Only one person missing from the entourage was Joe Goddard from Hot Chip, scheduled to DJ on the night, he was struck down by food poisoning just before the gig, but Erol Alkan stepped in and saved the day with a 4hr set that had everyone dancing until the early hours.
In his first appearance since the death of his good friend Amy Winehouse, it was no surprise that Mark played a touching tribute to Amy during the gig, performing Valerie and Back to Black to huge applause.
Next Friday I want My MTV Ibiza presents Richie Hawtin’s Plastikman live, for what’s expected to be the busiest weekend of the season. Duran Duran were scheduled for the 12th August, however having cancelled their Summer tour following Simon’s illness, there’s a very special guest to be announced soon with a stellar line up every Friday of Duck Sauce (Armand Van Helden), Robyn and Primal Scream presents Screamadelica closing the parties on 2nd September.
Biffy Clyro, Eliza Doolittle and Oswald Boetang, have been amongst the celebrity guests spotted at the I want My MTV Ibiza parties so far this Summer. Tickets 50 euros from www.mtvibiza.com
