Biffy Clyro will know they have "made it" when they can get a donkey on their backstage rider.

The 'Mountains' group don't perceive themselves as famous – despite scoring four UK top 20 singles from their last album 'Only Revolutions' - but will feel like a big time rock band when they can get away with ridiculous requests for promoters to fulfil before shows.

Vocalist and guitarist Simon Neil told BANG Showbiz: "We don't really think of ourselves as being famous - I think if we start doing that then we'll freak ourselves out.

"As soon as we can get a horse backstage, or a donkey, to get about on then we'll know we've made it.

"We've never made wild requests – we used to ask for a promoter's favourite DVD and red crayons. We used to be obsessed with red crayons for some reason."

Neil added he hopes the group – who released three albums before achieving mainstream success - can be an inspiration to struggling young musicians.

Speaking at the Nordoff Robbins O2 Silver Clef Awards in London today (01.07.11), he said: "Especially these days, bands have a couple of years to prove themselves and then if they don't they're unfortunately put by the wayside, and hopefully we prove that's not the case."
