2010 proved to be another significant year for music, with bands reforming left right and centre, Rihanna dominating the charts with a whopping six number one singles and former Oasis members breaking off to form Beady Eye.

Whilst in the last year we have bid farewell to the likes of rock god Ronnie James Dio and Teena Marie, we’ve seen the reformed Libertines playing Reading/Leeds festivals and with The Pulp and System of a Down set for headline slots at UK festivals next summer, we’re only left waiting for an Abba reunion to satisfy our musical taste buds.

In the charts, Eminem and Rihanna scored the highest selling single with Love the Way you Lie, with sales eclipsing 800,000 in the UK alone. Rather unfortunately, Take That’s Progress topped the album charts with over 1.5 million in sales. Personally I was rooting for Gorillaz, but then again I didn’t personally buy 1.5 million copies of Plastic Beach so I wasn't that committed to seeing Take That fail. X factor also managed to reclaim the crown of Christmas number 1, with The Trashmen’s Surfin Bird coming in at number 4.

It was a great year for festivals too, in spite of U2 pulling out of Glastonbury. T in the Park saw Eminem deliver an electric performance (Youtube it if you missed it), Blink 182 tore up Reading/Leeds festival and Iron Maiden return to our fine shores headlining Sonisphere festival.

We’ve may have been a little short on music scandals, but who could possibly forget Lady GaGa’s infamous meat dress, or George Bush slagging off Kanye. Next year we can all pray for some music controversy, perhaps Justin Bieber fulfilling his tour of North Korea finally.

As we turn to 2011, we can look forward to the last Glastonbury festival before the break, fresh releases from the likes of Limp Bizkit, The Foo Fighters and Radiohead and more great round the clock news right here!

Happy new year!
