Those of you with an obsession for the ‘new’ will by now almost certainly have heard Tensnake’s ‘Coma Cat’ and its unmistakable ringing hook. It’s a nu-disco, meets classic disco, meets 80’s boogie meets house hybrid that will almost certainly have you hypnotised.

The record has been bubbling since January this year and has been steadily attracting attention like iron filings drawn to a magnet. The catalyst really was Tensnake’s phenomenal debut podcast on Resident Advisor – a site regarded as the last word in underground house – which first brought the track to wider attention. Since then Tensnake’s star has been firmly in the ascendancy with extensive specialist dance radio support and a series of super cool live appearances to his name.

“From the title track's opening euphoric squeal of female ecstasy and the ensuing bells, clicks and congas that follow soon after, ‘Coma Cat’ is drenched in such thick, honey-like loveliness that it would be churlish to criticise it in any way”. Resident Advisor

Needless to say the track instantly picked up a Mixmag Big Tune review and has been enthusiastically supported by various dance music power houses from Aeroplane and Friendly Fires to Pete Tong and Annie Mac.

Tensnake himself is a relatively new artist with a handful of releases and remixes credited to him, but they are all quality, each and every one. The predecessor to Coma Cat was his sublime 2009 nu disco work out ‘Holding Back My Love’ which was not only another super cool but a widely played moment of the year.

It’s early days for the man known to his nearest and dearest as Marco Niemerski, he hails from Hamburg, Germany - the current centre of the universe of cool but old or ‘nu’, he’s certainly building a rep as a real producer’s producer.

This blissfully exultant track, 'Coma Cat' with its a big synthy bassline, old-school piano stabs and an almost overwhelmingly joyful hook has already broken big in clubland from Melbourne to Miami and Ibiza and now it’s undoubtedly a sure-fire festival hit with Tensnake himself appearing at Field Day in London as well as the Big Chill. Expect to hear ‘Coma Cat’ relentlessly over the coming months... certainly no bad thing with a track of this exceptional calibre. In fact, is there any way to avoid being bitten by right now?

‘Coma Cat’ is released on Defected Records on 20th September 2010. New mixes come from Treasure Fingers, Round Table Knights and Mark Knight.
Look out for Tensnake’s debut mix album forthcoming on Defected Records Out Sept 27th.
