POLICE in Majorca are trying to find a man seen at Stephen Gately's apartment on the night he died.
The Boyzone star and his partner Andy Cowles had reportedly invited a Bulgarian called Giorgio back to their £1million holiday home on the Spanish island after a night out in the capital city Palma on Saturday.
Gately is believed to have fallen asleep on the sofa but is thought to have died after choking on his own vomit following a marathon drinking session.
He was found dead by Cowles on Sunday afternoon but it is unclear whether Giorgio was still in the flat with them.
A police source said: "We do not think this man is involved in any way in Stephen's death but his testimony could prove vital.
"There were no signs of violence or evidence of suicide or any obvious evidence pointing to another probable cause of death such as the use of drugs."
But according to a report in the Sun newspaper this morning, the 33-year-old singer, who rarely drank, was "totally trashed" during a night at a gay club.
He and Cowles, who had a civil partnership ceremony in London in 2006, were seen downing white wine and potent cocktails before they met up with the Bulgarian and returning to the flat to carry on drinking.
One clubgoer who had a drink with them, said: "Stephen was totally trashed."
A friend of Cowles said he frantically tried to revive Gately after he found him in a strange "prayer position" - squatting on the floor with his head face down on a pillow on the sofa.
She said: "It was absolutely horrific.'
Meanwhile, Stephen's Boyzone band mates, Ronan Keating, Keith Duffy, Mikey Graham and Shane Lynch, arrived in Majorca last night to comfort Cowles.
They issued a statement that said: "We are completely devastated by the loss of our friend and brother, Stephen.
"We have shared such wonderful times together over the years and were all looking forward to sharing many more. Stephen was a beautiful person in both body and spirit.
"He lit up our lives and those of the many friends he had all over the world. Our love and sympathy go out to Andrew and Stephen's family. We love you and will miss you forever, 'Steo'."
Boyzone manager Louis Walsh, who pulled out of last night's live X Factor show, said: "I can't believe he has gone. I'm in denial."
