THE SMITHS were offered millions of pounds to reform for a number of live shows.

Former guitarist Johnny Marr said he and singer Morrissey were offered $50 million (£30 million) to reunited the band.

Speaking to Xfm, he said it was a "really abstract" and "pretty random" amount of money.

Regarding a possible reunion, Marr said: "It's absolutely nothing to do with money, because the amounts of money that we've been offered, or that I've heard we've been offered, is pretty obscene, it's pretty gross.

"This will be all over the flipping internet - all those twerps running around with it - but seeing as you asked, I think we were offered $50 million for three shows. It might have been five shows."

Last year it was claimed that The Smiths were poised to reunite for the Coachella music festival, but both Marr and Morrissey denied the reports.
