Chris Martin can't go on stage until he's brushed his teeth.

The Coldplay frontman has revealed he has a specific pre-concert ritual and admits he would struggle to sing a note if he didn't give his gnashers a good scrub first.

He said: "For me, there are about 18 things I have to do before I can go out to perform - most of them are too ridiculous to repeat! One is I have to brush my teeth before I go on stage, otherwise I just don't feel smart enough."

Although Chris is convinced he would have a bad show if he didn't stick to his habit, the 'Violet Hill' singer insists he is unfazed when playing to huge audiences.

The 32-year-old musician has no trouble when confronted with thousands of adoring fans because he can lose himself in the spectacle.

He added to Australia's Melbourne Herald Sun newspaper: "It's easier to perform the more people there are. Performing is much easier than playing.

When you are just playing, you kind of feel embarrassed if it's in a sound check party or a radio station or whatever, because you can't just let yourself go in the lights or the event. I find once there are lots of people and the lights go down, performing is just pure joy."
