Orange unsignedAct, the music programme that has been searching Britain for the best unsigned musical talent who write and perform their own music will draw to a dramatic climax on Sunday, 25th January 2009; as three of the nation’s best acts compete for an exclusive album deal with Universal music.
Presented by Alex Zane, and supported by Sony Ericsson the second series of Orange unsignedAct started in October and saw music aficionado Lauren Laverne, famed musician Alex James and head of A & M Records Simon Gavin begin a nationwide search to find the UK’s most talented bands and singer-songwriters who write and perform their own original material.
After reviewing over 7,000 entries to the competition from artists and short-listing the top 50 acts to perform live in front of an audience; the public have now selected three artists to take centre-stage in the live final:
19 year-old singer songwriter Tommy Reilly from Glasgow, "punksteppers", the Scarlet Harlots from Birmingham and four-piece indie band Hip Parade from Glasgow who complete the line-up for the nail-biting final this weekend.
In addition, the show will see the new stars of tomorrow meeting the big stars of today as Grammy-nominee Lily Allen makes a special guest appearance. Lily Allen will be lending her support and show the final three how to work the crowd by performing her much anticipated new single "The Fear".
TV and radio presenter Jo Whiley will be making a welcome return to the panel of judges for the live final to help the public crown the Orange unsignedAct winner of 2009, who win a £60,000 cash advance and album deal with Universal Music.
The public will have until the end of the show on Sunday, 25th January to cast their vote to decide who deserves to win.
All three artists are now recording their debut single this week in anticipation. The winner's song will be available to the public for download IMMEDIATELY after the result is revealed. The song will be available exclusively at the Orange Music Store.
Music fans will be able to have 24-hour access to all the gossip and behind-the-scenes news during the build-up to the live final through their mobile or by logging on to www.orangeunsignedact.co.uk.
