Nile Rodgers has defended the use of AI in his next music video.
Earlier this week, the Chic musician revealed he had undergone the "AI capture" process to create "an AI me" for the music video for his upcoming charity single with singer Rebecca Ferguson, The Christmas Song.
After he was criticised by his followers for using AI, Rodgers defended his decision in the comments.
"I hear you," he replied to one user. "I think it's somewhat hypocritical to say you're anti AI and you're using it all the time because it makes your life convenient. I used to work with Microsoft and Apple. I'm very aware of the things they do when they have new tech that consumers like yourself adopt its usage. Love to you. I respect all opinions."
In a separate comment, the 74-year-old guitarist insisted that the music video team "created everything", like moodboards and storyboards, and then got the artificial intelligence to do "what we told it to do".
"We painstakingly created every second you'll see on the screen," he wrote. "If this were a traditional film it would've cost about $100,000. By the way you're using AI daily... You're being hypocritical. It's ok for you to use AI in your way but you have (a) problem with my way. Do you use Google, or get driving directions? Look at your own daily actions and check how much you use AI. Love, Nile."
Rodgers also shared stills from the video, in which he and Ferguson seemingly perform on stage in front of an audience of wild animals.
The musician first recorded the charity song during COVID-19, and it will be released on 20 November.
