Michael Jackson's iconic hit Thriller is mounting a serious challenge for the UK Number 1 spot as Halloween festivities draw to a close. According to the latest Official Chart: First Look, the legendary 1982 pop anthem has surged to Number 2 in early sales and streaming reports, putting immense pressure on current leader Jamie Miller's Babydoll.
The track has become an undeniable seasonal staple across the UK. After reaching a peak of Number 9 in 2025, a full 42 years following its original release, Thriller is now within striking distance of securing the top position on Friday's Official Singles Chart Top 100. The surge highlights the enduring power of the King of Pop's horror-themed classic, which continues to dominate digital streaming and radio playlists every autumn.
The King of Pop leads a wider seasonal takeover of the UK chart landscape, with a full flurry of Halloween tracks making rapid gains across the standings. Ray Parker Jr.'s Ghostbusters has successfully vaulted into the First Look Top 10 at Number 10, while Bobby "Boris" Pickett's novelty favourite Monster Mash climbs toward Number 16. Rockwell's paranoid anthem Somebody's Watching Me sits comfortable at Number 19, closely pursued by Danny Elfman's atmospheric This Is Halloween from The Nightmare Before Christmas at Number 20. Andrew Gold's viral favorite Spooky Scary Skeletons is also tracking toward a brand-new peak at Number 23.
Adding to the spooky momentum, Ariana Grande looks set to return to the Top 40. Her track petal is aiming for a re-entry at Number 31 following a viral resurgence across social media platforms, where fans have been pairing the former Top 10 hit with spooky seasonal edits and creative holiday content.
The Official Chart: First Look provides an early preview based on preliminary data ahead of the final Official Singles Chart Top 100 reveal this Friday. Current Top 10 standings show Tate McRae holding strong at Number 3 with Housewife, while Ashe's Stop The Wedding and Sienna Spiro's Great Expectation round out the top five.
