JAY-Z has described being asked to headline the 2027 Super Bowl Halftime Show as a "dream come true".
On Monday, leaders at Apple Music, the National Football League (NFL), and Roc Nation announced that the Empire State of Mind rapper will be the featured performer at the event, officially known as the Apple Music Super Bowl LXI Halftime Show, held at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles on 14 February 2027.
Reflecting on the prestigious gig, JAY-Z - real name Shawn Carter - noted that the show is particularly significant as he is celebrating the 30th anniversary of his debut album Reasonable Doubt.
"From Reasonable Doubt to standing on the Super Bowl Halftime stage, this has been a journey," the 56-year-old stated. "Thirty years of music, work, and culture on the world's biggest stage. This run continues to be a dream come true."
JAY-Z has served as the NFL's live music entertainment strategist since 2019.
Accordingly, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell is thrilled to have the hip-hop mogul on board.
"For several years, we've had the privilege of working closely with JAY-Z and Roc Nation, and I've seen the extraordinary impact he has had on the Super Bowl Halftime Show," he praised. "When we first reached an agreement with Roc Nation to produce the show, I had just one request: that JAŸ-Z take the stage himself one day, whenever the moment felt right to him. I couldn't be more excited for fans around the world to experience the artistry, creativity, and cultural impact he will bring to the Super Bowl stage."
It's currently unclear whether JAY-Z's wife, music superstar Beyoncé, will appear during the production.
Bad Bunny headlined the 2026 Super Bowl Halftime Show last February.
