Country music star John Anderson has died.

On Wednesday, a family representative announced via social media that the singer-songwriter had passed away at the age of 71. A cause of death wasn't disclosed.

"To the world, he was a gifted country music singer whose voice and songs touched countless lives. To us, he was so much more," they wrote. "He was the heart of our family, the one who made us laugh, loved us fiercely, and made every ordinary moment feel special. We are completely heartbroken."

The spokesperson asked fans to keep the Anderson family in their "thoughts and prayers" during this difficult time.

"His music will live on, but for us, his greatest legacy will always be the love he gave his family and the memories we will carry with us forever," they added.

Anderson broke into the music industry with his 1977 single I've Got a Feelin' (Somebody's Been Stealin'). He later became known for tracks including Wild and Blue, Black Sheep, Straight Tequila Night, Money in the Bank, and Seminole Wind.

The musician unveiled his twenty-second and final studio album, Years, in 2020.

Anderson was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2024.

Following the sad news, a number of country music artists posted tributes.

"One of my favorite people in this business. I sure will miss you, John. Love you and your music always," wrote Reba McEntire, while Luke Combs commented, "Damn. Rest easy John. Thanks for the songs."

And Jason Aldean posted, "One of my all-time favorites. I grew up listening and learning to play guitar on all my dad's old John Anderson albums. I was lucky enough to have met and performed with him a few times over the years. Sending thoughts and prayers to the family. He was a great one. You'll be missed, bud."

Elsewhere, Tim McGraw shared that he was "completely heartbroken" over the loss as he had just spoken with Anderson after his induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame at the CMA Theater in Nashville, Tennessee last weekend.

"He was in such good spirits. We talked, we laughed, we sang his songs that I loved so much together, just goofing off," he declared. "There will never be a stylist in music, any music, that was so defining as his. It's just devastating. All of our love goes out to his family and the country music community. He was and is one of the defining voices in country music. So great. I am completely shook."

Anderson is survived by his wife Jamie and two daughters.
