Iconic stage writer and comedian Ben Elton has asked Noel Gallagher if he could write an “Oasis jukebox musical”.

The pair bumped into each other at the Queen Budapest premiere at the BFI Imax in London recently, where the We Will Rock You scribe told the Britpop legend he'd be interested in using Oasis' hits to create a new stage show.

According to The Sun newspaper's Bizarre column, referring to his brother Liam, the guitarist laughed: “You better ask our kid.”

A friend of frontman Liam suggested they wouldn't be able to find an actor to play him as they could never "match" his "swagger".

We Will Rock You, featuring the music of Queen, was hugely successful, becoming the longest-running musical at the Dominion Theatre and one of the longest-running shows in the West End. It also won the Laurence Olivier Award for Most Popular Show.

There’s clearly a huge appetite for anything Oasis, with 11 million fans registering for the Oasis Live ’27 ballot.

Following the Live Forever rockers' first tour in 16 years last year, there was a comedy stage show about the legendary Britpop rivalry between Blur and Oasis.

Gavin and Stacey star Mathew Horne played Britpop music executive Andy Ross, who was caught in the crossfire of one of the most notorious rivalries in British music history, in The Battle.

He said: “This play is right in the sweet spot of my teenage cultural experience. I’m thrilled to be exploring this iconic era in music on stage with such a talented creative team involved.”

The play dived into the intense competition of August 1995, when both bands released their hit singles Country House and Roll With It on the same day, vying for the top spot in the charts.

Blur came out on top after they shifted 274,000 copies, while Oasis fell short with 216,000.

The battle led to Blur and Oasis members trading insults over the years, though they softened in recent years.

The show was intended to tour the UK, but they pulled the plug after the Birmingham and Manchester dates in February and March this year.

The Oasis Live '27 tour kicks off at Celtic Park in Glasgow on May 21 and spans 42 shows, including a record-breaking six nights at Knebworth.
