Speaking to Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, Miley Cyrus discussed the chaotic duality of her life while filming the music video for her new title track "Bass Persuades". Balancing her quiet home life with high-concept pop stardom, Cyrus revealed how a late-night video shoot brought out her inner 'Hannah Montana' in unexpected conditions.
"The 'Bass Persuades' video was shot at like 3:00 in the morning," Cyrus recalled. "I like to be in bed by 7:00pm. We're actually outside and it was freezing... Teru, my tortoise, his heater broke. Drama. Because I have a thermometer on my phone that'll tell me when he's cold. I'm in silk panties and a leather jacket going down the street doing this choreo, and the whole time I'm thinking, 'The fucking turtle's cold!'"
Cyrus continued: "I'm freaking out, but I'm like, no, this is like Hannah Montana. Like Miley Stewart, her tortoise is cold, and Hannah Montana is here in her Dolce set, keeping it pushing with all the dancers."
During the interview, Cyrus emphasized how prioritizing rest, recovery, and her morning routine caring for her rescue animals keeps her centered amid the pressures of touring, citing a recent post by Charli xcx about post-show exhaustion as something that deeply resonated with her. "It is so important to me that home, my home is why I'm doing this this way.
The thing that I can't live without is my ritual... I have a tortoise, he's 20 years old and he's a diva. He needs his dandelion greens and his yellow peppers in the morning. I have a routine and it only makes me a better person because I'm getting that time to connect with something that has no idea who I am."
Cyrus's tenth album Bass Persuades is out now on BMG, ahead of her scheduled headline shows at the Hollywood Bowl this October.
