BBC Radio 2 in the Park continued today under sunny skies in Stirling, bringing thousands of music fans together against the backdrop of Stirling Castle. Following a high-energy Friday night DJ party with Sara Cox, Gary Davies, DJ Spoony, Michelle Visage, and Rylan, day two featured a stellar line-up on the main stage. Texas kicked off the afternoon, followed by pop legends ABC.
Presenters Shaun Keaveny, Paddy McGuinness, Mark Goodier, and Jeremy Vine were spotted dancing side-stage as frontman Martin Fry joked about guitarist Pete Rinaldi’s lost luggage, telling the crowd: "Gotta say we always play shows in suits ladies and gentlemen you may have noticed, but my good friend Pete Rinaldi… thank you BA for losing his suit this afternoon… so bear with us you know what I mean? Don’t ask for your money back."
Scottish music legend Lulu received a massive welcome as she celebrated the warm weather, shouting to the audience: "Hello Stirling! Oh my God look - the gods love us." Emeli Sandé also delivered a set packed with powerful vocals and emotional songwriting.
Jack Savoretti delivered a heartfelt performance and reflected on his deep connection to Scotland, saying: "It is stunning, I mean just being in the shadow of this castle is… intense… is the word I would always describe Scotland." He added: "The first time I ever heard an audience sing along to one of my songs was Scotland… it blew my mind." Savoretti also thanked listeners directly, stating: "For 20 years this radio station has looked after me... So, it's nice to finally meet you face to face."
At 4 p.m., a video message played from Trevor Nelson, who told fans: "I’m so gutted that I cannot be there with you lot... so many of you guys have sent me best wishes, love and support – it’s got me through." He confirmed he will be back in the studio on Monday at 2 p.m.
The festival continues tonight, with The Script frontman Danny O'Donoghue declaring he was "rearing to go" before their set, leading into a grand finale from soul icon Chaka Khan.
