AC/DC’s upcoming Toronto date has been officially cancelled after engineers confirmed that Rogers Stadium suffered extensive structural damage during last week’s violent rain and hail storm.
The rock legends were due to play the 50,000-capacity venue on September 16, but Live Nation says the stadium is no longer safe to host the show.
The promoter announced the cancellation following a “thorough assessment” of the stadium, revealing that parts of the structure must now be removed and rebuilt
A statement noted: “Safety for employees, fans, artists and vendors is always paramount."
Kevin Mahoney, the stadium’s on-site meteorologist, described the weather event as extraordinary.
He said: “A suspected microburst in the area with extreme winds and heavy rainfall made it a 100-year storm for Toronto."
He added that forensic meteorological analysis is still underway due to the storm’s extreme intensity.
With engineers determining that the affected sections cannot safely support a crowd, Live Nation said cancelling the show was the only responsible option.
Wayne Zronik, president of business operations for Live Nation Canada, said: “We know how disappointing this will be for all of us who have been looking forward to seeing AC/DC close out our summer season.
“The right decision is to take the time to remove and rebuild the affected parts of the stadium.”
All Ticketmaster purchases will be automatically refunded, while fans who bought resale tickets are advised to contact their point of sale.
Rogers Stadium will now undergo extensive work to ensure it can reopen confidently next season.
The cancellation comes days after Foo Fighters opened for AC/DC in a one-off on their Power Up Tour after The Pretty Reckless were forced to miss their St. Louis show on September 8.
Frontman Dave Grohl admitted it was a "huge f****** bucket list check".
