Zara Larsson has confirmed that she will not pursue the Best New Artist Grammy ahead of the 2027 awards.
The Swedish singer-songwriter has revealed that she does not see herself as a new artist, having released five albums throughout her career, despite achieving a breakthrough in the U.S. with her latest record, Midnight Sun.
In a new interview with Perfect Magazine, Zara explained that her former record label, which she left earlier this summer before signing with a new one, had been considering submitting her for the Best New Artist category at the 2027 Grammys.
"I was speaking to my former label about this, and they were like, 'Yeah, we're going to see if we can put you in Best New Artist for the Grammys.' And I'm like, I don't even want that," she said. "That would downplay the 13 years of me being an artist. I'm not a new artist."
The Lush Life hitmaker, who has been releasing music for more than a decade, explained that she would prefer to be described as a "breakthrough" artist.
"But that's why I like 'breakthrough'," she told the publication. "It feels like the whole world is looking at me at the same time. Before, this song was successful over here, and another song a year later was successful over there."
She added, "Now it feels like it's all coming together quite nicely."
While Zara has enjoyed success throughout her career, Midnight Sun has helped take her to a new level.
However, the 28-year-old would not be eligible for the Best New Artist category regardless, having previously received a Grammy nomination.
Zara received her first-ever Grammy nomination in November 2025 for her hit single Midnight Sun, which was nominated for Best Dance Pop Recording. Lady Gaga ultimately took home the award for Abracadabra.
