A couple celebrated a surprise engagement on Brighton beach during Madness’s headlining performance at the On The Beach festival. The romantic moment took place amidst the crowd as the iconic ska-pop group delivered their set on the coastal stage.
The event forms part of the returning On The Beach festival, which has taken over the Brighton seafront across the weekends of 16–19 July and 23–26 July 2026. Featuring a lineup of 40 acts across eight distinct shows, the multi-weekend series continues to solidify its position as a central fixture of the city's summer cultural calendar.
First launched in 2021, the coastal event recently picked up the award for ‘Best Location’ at the Skiddle Awards 2026. Over its six-year history, the beachside venue has hosted a wide range of major UK and international touring acts. Previous headliners have included electronic heavyweights such as Fatboy Slim, Chase & Status, Above & Beyond, Bicep, Eric Prydz, Underworld, and Carl Cox.
The festival has also regularly featured prominent indie and rock performers, hosting previous sold-out sets from Royal Blood, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, The Libertines, Bloc Party, Kaiser Chiefs, and The Kooks. With its combination of high-profile headliners and its scenic coastal setting, On The Beach remains a major fixture on the UK summer festival circuit.
