LISA's debut documentary Always Lalisa is set to premiere at the 51st Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) this September.

The film, directed by Sue Kim, was shot over the course of a year and charts the BLACKPINK star’s path into solo stardom - from behind-the-scenes moments creating her debut album Alter Ego, to her first solo appearance at Coachella 2025, and her acting debut in Season 3 of HBO’s The White Lotus.

Fans will get an insight into her journey so far “from her childhood dreams to becoming a member of BLACKPINK and the global superstar she is today.”

At its core, the film reveals the real Lalisa Manobal, someone who insists she’s still “just an ordinary girl from Thailand” beneath the spotlight.

Kim spent a full year travelling with LISA to capture her journey. Over the past 12 months, the singer has also performed at the opening ceremony of the 2026 FIFA World Cup alongside Anitta and Rema, and made history as the first K-pop artist to secure a Las Vegas residency with her VIVA LA LISA show at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace.

The artist recently revealed she turned to acting because she was searching for fresh "inspiration".

The 29-year-old star rose to prominence as a member of the South Korean K-pop group BLACKPINK, which became one of the best-selling girl groups of all time - but LISA turned her focus towards acting because she felt she'd stagnated.

She told Vanity Fair magazine: "Sometimes when you’re doing the things that [you’ve done] for more than 10 years, you feel like you should find new things to find inspiration."

LISA was never keen on acting during her younger years, but her mother always encouraged her to pursue it.

She shared: "I feel like acting was always one of the things that I never [wanted to] try.

"When I was little, my mom wanted me to be a kid actor, and she sent me to an acting school."

LISA also feels she's remained authentic to herself, regardless of her fame and success.

Asked to compare her on-stage persona to her real-life self, the singer-turned-actress explained: "I’m not trying to pretend that I’m someone else. It’s just me, plus a little more confidence."
