Madonna doesn't want to make "mindless music".

The Material Girl singer premiered the visualiser for her upcoming Confessions II album at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York on Friday (05.06.26) and she explained the video - a 13-minute short featuring the first six tracks from the record - is "really about connection", which is what she seeks in her music.

According to Deadline, she said: “I don’t want to make mindless music. I want to make music that’s about something.

“Dance music makes you move your body, and you feel the pulse. It’s, like, you’re connecting to the universe, you’re connecting to other humans.

“The movie’s really about connection. I emerge from my solitude of this apartment and go right into a forest with people with lasers coming out of their a****. You just really go through life, take risks, be curious, be observant."

Madonna had fans lock their mobile phones in special pouches ahead of the screening.

She urged: "Put your f****** phones down and connect."

The 67-year-old singer recalled how, when she had performed with Sabrina Carpenter during her Coachella set in April, “everybody had their phones up [and] I didn’t know what anyone looked like."

Confessions II has been directed by David Toro and Solomon Chase aka TORSO and features cameos from the likes of Sabrina Carpenter, Benedict Cumberbatch, Debi Mazar, Kate Moss, Julia Garner, Odessa A’zion, Richard E. Grant, Honey Dijon, and Madonna’s daughter Lourdes Leon.

And Madonna explained why she liked the idea of the visualiser..

She said: “I like the idea of film, because I’m a ‘film-phile,’ a cinephile, and film has inspired a good part of my life.

“Somehow [the word] video seems cheap. It was good when it was just MTV and me.

“I’m a storyteller, so, emotion journey, storytelling, and [TORSO are] from another planet and they think [about] environment and visual dopamine-firing.”

And she praised the directors for their vision.

She said: “I really have to give credit to these guys in terms of visuals for each environment. Specifically, I never would have imagined lasers coming out of girls’ p******. Honestly, I really wanted to try it, but apparently, you get quite hot.”
