Doja Cat was "absolutely crushed" by her set at Primavera Sound festival being cancelled due to adverse weather on Thursday night.

Organisers of the music event in Barcelona, Spain announced at short notice that performances by top acts including Doja, Massive Attack and Bad Gyal would not go ahead due to "safety reasons" caused by "adverse weather".

The Paint the Town Red singer took to Instagram Live in her full stage costume and make-up and addressed the cancellation.

"The weather was not gonna get any better. I didn't know that. I don't think anybody really, truly knew how bad it was gonna get, but it got bad. And it got bad on the wrong day," she said. "I really wanted to see you guys tonight and I love you so much. I do."

She added, "I'm absolutely crushed and torn to pieces about the whole thing."

Doja, real name Amala Dlamini, was then overcome with emotion as she apologised to her disappointed fans.

"I know it's not my fault, like yeah, it's the weather, but I'm sorry. I really wanted to give you a great show tonight," she continued, her voice breaking. "I will be back, and I'm gonna come back with a fire that you've never seen. And I'm gonna come back with my heart as big as it can be."

She then shared a close-up of her tears streaking through her stage make-up.

The 30-year-old also addressed her fans on X, writing, "Barcelona i am fully dressed and ready to go to stage but it's just not safe enough to continue the show tonight. I'm so sorry that this is how this s**t has to be right now. I will think of everything I can under the sun to make it up to you. Please stay safe and warm I will see you again I promise."

In an official statement on Friday, organisers explained that they cancelled those headlining sets - as well as earlier performances by Alex G and Mac DeMarco - because it was "not possible to guarantee safety" due to the rain and strong gusts of wind. Thursday ticketholders will receive refunds.

Primavera Sound, held at Parc del Fòrum on the Barcelona coast, continues on Friday with sets from The Cure, Addison Rae, PinkPantheress and Skrillex.
