Music legend Paul McCartney is in pole position to secure his eighth solo UK Number 1 album with his latest release, The Boys of Dungeon Lane. According to the latest Official Albums Chart update, the 20th studio LP from the Beatles icon has taken an early lead based on initial sales and streaming figures.
Chronicling McCartney's early experiences growing up in the Speke area of Liverpool, the deeply personal record is on track to join an illustrious list of his previous solo chart-toppers, including Ram, Band On The Run, and his most recent number one, 2020's McCartney III. Reaching the summit would also see him surpass the likes of George Michael and Cliff Richard, placing him 14th on the all-time list of artists with the most UK Number 1 albums.
However, a fierce challenge is mounting from the runner-up spot. Acclaimed Scottish electronic duo Boards of Canada are close behind at Number 2 with Inferno, their first studio album in 13 years. The highly anticipated project could earn band members Mike Sandison and Marcus Eoin their highest-charting album to date, eclipsing the Number 7 peak achieved by 2013's Tomorrow’s Harvest.
The rest of the preliminary Top 10 showcases a highly diverse mix of genres and special re-releases. Rock mainstays Shinedown are eyeing a third Top 10 entry with EI8HT at Number 4, while pop artist Skye Newman's 2025 debut EP SE9 Part 1 is surging to a fresh peak at Number 5 following the completion of her full SE9 series. Ariana Grande's 2016 favorite Dangerous Woman is also staging a dramatic rebound to Number 7, fueled by a Tenth Anniversary Edition featuring newly available streaming tracks.
Further down, singer Freya Ridings sits at Number 9 with Mother Of Pearl, while actor and musician Kiefer Sutherland aims for a Top 20 placement with GREY at Number 12. Additionally, live albums from Bruce Springsteen and Dua Lipa are gaining traction in the Top 40, alongside a strong debut from electronic supergroup Doublespeak at Number 21.
