Britney Spears has voluntarily checked into rehab.

The pop star felt that seeking treatment following her recent DUI arrest was "the best step" for herself, a source told People magazine.

On Sunday, a rep for Spears confirmed to the outlet that Spears had checked herself into a treatment facility.

She checked in a few days ago, "somewhere in the United States", TMZ reported.

The news follows the Baby One More Time singer's 4 March arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol (DUI) in Ventura, California.

After she was released from custody the following day, a rep told People in a statement that the "unfortunate incident" was "completely inexcusable".

"Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law, and hopefully this can be the first step in a long-overdue change that needs to occur in Britney's life," the statement continued. "Hopefully, she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time."

Her rep added, "Her boys are going to be spending time with her. Her loved ones are going to come up with an overdue needed plan to set her up for success for well-being."

Spears shares sons Sean Preston and Jayden James with ex-husband Kevin Federline.

Throughout her career, she has sought treatment for various health and substance issues, including reported prior stints in rehab in 2007, 2008 and 2019.
