The race for the UK’s Official Albums Chart is heating up this week, with Irish powerhouse Dermot Kennedy leading the charge. According to the latest mid-week figures, the acclaimed singer-songwriter is currently on track to secure his third consecutive Number 1 album with his latest long-player, The Weight of the Woods.
If Kennedy maintains his momentum until Friday’s final tally, The Weight of the Woods will join his previous triumphs—2019’s Without Fear and 2022’s Sonder—at the summit of the charts. This potential "hat-trick" of chart-toppers cements Kennedy’s status as one of the most consistent and formidable forces in modern music, proving that his blend of raw emotion and soaring vocals continues to resonate deeply with the British public.
The upper echelons of the chart are also seeing significant movement from other industry heavyweights. Arlo Parks is eyeing her own milestone; her new release, Ambiguous Desire, is currently sitting at Number 7. If it holds its position, it will mark her third Top 10 appearance, following the critical and commercial success of Collapsed In Sunbeams (2021) and My Soft Machine (2023).
Meanwhile, Sabrina Carpenter is experiencing a massive surge. Driven by the release of a fresh music video for her hit single "House Tour," her album Man’s Best Friend is currently projected to leapfrog 15 places to land at Number 8.
Anticipation is also fueling a resurgence for Olivia Rodrigo. Following the announcement of her upcoming third album, you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love (slated for June), fans have flocked back to her previous work. Both GUTS and SOUR are climbing the standings, currently positioned at 22 and 23 respectively.
Veteran rockers U2 are also making their presence felt. Following their recent EP Days of Ash, the Dublin icons released a second surprise project, Easter Lily. The release is on course to earn the band their 22nd Top 40 entry, currently tracking at Number 29. Rounding out the highlights, Thundercat is set to secure his third Top 40 album with his latest experimental offering, Distracted, currently hovering at Number 33.
The final Official Albums Chart will be revealed this Friday, but all eyes remain on Dermot Kennedy as he nears a historic career milestone.
