Este Haim wants to compose music for Paul Thomas Anderson’s movies.
The pair are close after the filmmaker directed 10 of the Haim sisters’ music videos and their short film Valentine, while he also cast Alana Haim in Licorice Pizza and gave smaller roles to Este, Danielle and their mother Donna.
And, now Este – who has composed the score for new movie Sunny Dancer – revealed her wish to write music for Anderson’s upcoming movies.
According to Variety, she said: “I think Paul is one of the greatest directors of not just our generation, but of all time. And I feel very, very lucky that I’ve gotten to work with him on most of our music videos. I sort of view him as kind of like my older brother.”
Este went on to say that if Radiohead guitarist and frequent Paul Thomas Anderson collaborator Jonny Greenwood decides to retire from scoring his movies, she will happily take over.
She said: “So yes. If Jonny Greenwood happens to retire, I will be right there for Paul whenever he would like.”
However, right now, Este, 39 is concentrating on her partnership with Sunny Dancer director, George Jaques, 25, saying she would work with him for the “rest of my life”.
She went on: “So I’ve got two sisters, and I have two brothers as well.”
Speaking about Este, he said: “No f****** way is a Grammy-nominated artist gonna do this. She was like, ‘George, I’m actually Type 1 diabetic, and I used to go on diabetes camps’ and I just knew then she was in… and then she brought on co-composer Zachary Dawes, who’s Lana Del Rey’s bassist.”
Sunny Dancer stars Bella Ramsay as 17-year-old cancer survivor Ivy, with Jessica Gunning and James Norton portraying her parents.
James Blunt also makes a cameo with his song You’re Beautiful and George revealed he took part for free.
He said: “He was amazing, and just the kindest man - and he came and did it all for free! I remember looking at my monitor, and there was Neil Patrick Harris in there, plus James Norton and Jess Gunning, and then James Blunt singing ‘You’re Beautiful,’ and I thought, what the f***, this is mental. I don’t actually know how I did this.”
