Nick Jonas has opened up about the "very intense" circumstances of his daughter's birth.

The Jonas Brothers star and his actress wife, Priyanka Chopra, welcomed their first child, Malti Marie, via surrogate in January 2022.

While Nick has shared some details about Malti's premature arrival before, during an appearance on the On Purpose with Jay Shetty podcast on Wednesday, the singer-songwriter revealed that the infant weighed just one pound, 11 ounces (765 grams) at birth.

"She came to the world under sort of very intense circumstances, which I've not really talked about ever," he began. "But we were expecting her to arrive in April of the year she was born, and we get a call that it's gonna be sooner. So, we basically went into action, and she was born via surrogate... These angels at the NICU kind of resuscitated her in that moment and got her taken care of really quickly and intubated and everything else."

Due to Covid-19 restrictions at the time, Nick and Priyanka traded 12-hour shifts at the hospital for the first three months of Malti's life.

"But she fought every day for three and a half months," the 33-year-old continued. "And, you know, (Malti) slowly started to gain some weight. And after six blood transfusions, she was doing great, and we got to take her home."

Elsewhere in the conversation, Nick noted that his little one, who is now four years old, is "perfect in every way".

"I feel like she knows how she entered the world and what that first chapter of her life was like," he smiled. "And so, every day is a gift. And you can actually feel it (in) her in the way that she behaves and how exciting everything is. I don't know how much she remembers. Probably nothing, spiritually I believe that there's gratitude in her and that she's incredible."

Nick and Priyanka wed in 2018.

The Jealous hitmaker is currently promoting his upcoming fifth studio album, Sunday Best. The project is set to be released on Friday.
