Lizzo has settled a copyright infringement lawsuit over a song she did not commercially release.
In October, lawyers for The GRC Trust filed a lawsuit against Lizzo and her label, Atlantic Records, over I'm Goin' In Till October, also known as Good Jeans, which blew up on TikTok and Instagram in the summer of 2025.
They alleged that Lizzo sampled and copied both instrumental and vocal elements from their copyrighted work, Win or Lose (We Tried), without permission.
However, in a notice filed in federal court this week, lawyers for The GRC Trust stated that they've reached a "settlement in principle" with the Juice singer. According to Rolling Stone, they said that they expect to file a dismissal of the case with prejudice within 60 days, meaning that they can't file the case again.
Details of the settlement were not disclosed.
In the original lawsuit, the lawyers claimed that both parties tried to reach an agreement about sampling the original composition, but never worked out a deal. They accused Lizzo of knowingly using their copyrighted work for commercial gain without paying to license it, and sought damages and an injunction to block the exploitation of their song.
At the time, representatives for the Grammy-winning singer said in a statement, "We are surprised that The GRC Trust filed this lawsuit. To be clear, the song has never been commercially released or monetised, and no decision has been made at this time regarding any future commercial release of the song."
Lizzo, real name Melissa Jefferson, previously faced a plagiarism claim over her song Truth Hurts, and both parties reached a private settlement in 2022.
In 2023, she faced a series of lawsuits from former employees, alleging sexual and racial harassment, weight-shaming, and a hostile work environment. She denied all of the claims.
A judge rejected her request to dismiss the case filed by three former backup dancers. He dismissed claims of fat-shaming and disability discrimination but upheld some of the sexual harassment and hostile work environment allegations.
