Norman Cook, better known as Fatboy Slim, joined The Chris Moyles Show on Radio X this morning to share his thoughts on the Rolling Stones finally approving the release of ‘Satisfaction Skank.’ Reacting to the news, Cook said he was ‘very, very grateful’ to the Rolling Stones for approving the sample after 25 years, which he called the ‘secret weapon’ of his DJ sets. During this morning’s chat, Cook also noted that actor and comedian Simon Pegg is ‘one of the best DJs he’s ever heard!’

Fatboy Slim says he is ‘very, very grateful’ to the Rolling Stones for allowing him to finally release the ‘secret weapon’ of his DJ sets after 25 years
CM: “I'm so excited about this track being released.”
NC: “Me too! You would have thought that after 20 years my enthusiasm might have dwindled, but it still kind of tickles me. I’m very, very grateful to the Rolling Stones for letting us do this, eventually.”
CM: “Well, in my head, it was about 1998 that you made it. Would that be about right?”
NC: “It would have been whenever I got bored of playing the original version in my DJ sets. So, probably about six months after the original came out, and I just wanted a different version to play! So, I made it basically for myself for my DJ sets. But then everyone seemed to want it. So, then we approached the Rolling Stones to say, ‘Can we release it?’ And they went, ‘No.’ And yes, for 20 years it's been my kind of secret weapon in my DJ sets, but I’m kind of aware that everybody still liked it. But it's been my sort of secret weapon for all those years, and now we're lucky enough to be able to share it with the world!”

CM: “Now, finally, can I play All Back to Minehead next year please?”
NC: “Listen, we'll talk about this. Did you submit the demo cassette I asked you to?”
CM: “I absolutely will. If you want me to, I will.”
NC: “Yeah. See, the thing is, I curate this and I take it very seriously, but we have certain standards, Chris. I can't just squeeze you in because we're friends. I mean, you asked me this on the air, I could have told you publicly. If you're of a certain quality and if you submit a demo cassette of your mixing abilities and your show, then I'll put it to our committee. But I can't just do you a favour.”
CM: “How did Pegg get on the list?”
NC: “You what?”
CM: “How did Simon Pegg get on the list?”
NC: “I saw him DJing on Instagram.”
CM: “Right, fine.”
NC: “Maybe if you could put together some kind of…”
CM: “I DJ’d on Instagram every Friday night in lockdown for two-and-a-half bloody years, he didn't tune in once! Pegg does it once, right? Looking like a startled bunny rabbit!”
NC: “Can I just say, by the way, Simon Pegg is the one of the best DJs I've ever heard! I mean, I knew he was all right, but I didn't know he was that good until he did it. Anyway, no, we'll talk about this, Chris. But maybe off the air so I can say what I really think!”
CM: “Haha!”
