The BRIT Awards 2026 with Mastercard has announced the three artists shortlisted for the prestigious Critics’ Choice supported by BBC Radio 1: Jacob Alon, Rose Gray, and SIENNA SPIRO. The shortlist continues its tradition as a crucial barometer for identifying the next wave of British music talent, with the winner set to be revealed in January.
The nominees follow in the footsteps of an impressive lineage of former winners and nominees who achieved global stardom, including Adele, Dua Lipa, Sam Smith, Jorja Smith, Griff, and Myles Smith. The award has reverted to its original name, Critics’ Choice, to emphasize the importance of early critical acclaim.
Jacob Alon, hailing from Fife, brings a blend of folk-rooted vulnerability and pop instincts. Fresh off a Mercury Prize shortlist nomination for their debut album ‘In Limerence’ and a celebrated Glastonbury set, Jacob's raw, piano-driven storytelling has earned them recognition, including being named the first Scottish winner of BBC Introducing’s Artist of the Year. "I really care about and believe in this music and it makes my world brighter every time it reaches someone else," Jacob commented on the nomination.
East London artist Rose Gray is recognized for her euphoric blend of club culture and razor-sharp pop. Her debut album ‘Louder, Please’ has quickly accelerated her career, leading to tours across Europe and collaborations with major artists. “This moment feels like a special reminder of how far this journey has carried me and what a crazy year it’s been,” Rose said about her nod.
Rounding out the shortlist is SIENNA SPIRO, who has rapidly emerged as a compelling voice with a soulful tone and cinematic storytelling. Her latest release, the heartfelt ballad ‘Die On This Hill,’ became her first UK Top 10 hit. With sold-out tours and high-profile performances alongside Sam Smith, SIENNA is building a path defined by authenticity and vulnerability. "So beyond honoured and grateful to be nominated," she shared.
The BRIT Awards 2026 will be broadcast on ITV and ITVX on Saturday, February 28th, marking the event's first time being held outside of London, at Manchester’s Co-op Live.
