Rocker YUNGBLUD shared a wild, deeply personal, and hilarious family secret last night on The Capital Evening Show with Jimmy Hill, confirming a headline that sounds too strange to be true: he genuinely believed that Rod Stewart was his grandfather for the first decade of his life.
YUNGBLUD, known for his energetic anthems, told host Jimmy Hill the full story, explaining that the deception was entirely his grandmother’s doing. "My nan was always a very imaginative lady, and my nan would lie to me," he laughed. "She'd put me in a foot bath and lie to me and said that Rod Stewart was my grandfather for, like, my formative years."
The singer believed the rock legend was his grandad up until he was about ten years old. The moment the truth came out was just as bizarre as the lie itself.
The lie crumbled during a mundane trip to the supermarket. YUNGBLUD recalled the fateful moment: "Until I was in ASDA, right, I was doing the weekly shop with my nan, and I remember by the checkout I picked up a Rod Stewart CD."
Young YUNGBLUD, with a "proper quivering lip," asked his nan, "When's granddad coming home?"
He realized the jig was up when everyone at the checkout started laughing, knowing his grandmother had been caught in a "blatant lie." That was the day the future rock star discovered that he was not, in fact, related to the famous singer.
While there has been no official DNA test, YUNGBLUD did reveal a sweet connection: Rod Stewart himself has since entered the chat. The legend slid into YUNGBLUD's DMs, saying, "Alright my wee grandson!"
