Ed Sheeran reveals he was once offered a gig in space on The Scott Mills Breakfast Show.
Pop superstar Ed Sheeran joined Scott Mills on BBC Radio’s Breakfast Show this morning to talk about his new album ‘Play’, Lewis Capaldi’s return, moving to America for his upcoming tour and how he was once offered to do a gig in space!
Ed told Scott how he really looks up to Coldplay’s Chris Martin and often goes to other songwriters like James Blunt and Damain Rice for advice. He also talks about reading some music reviews, and believes every artist reads reviews out of curiosity.
On Lewis Capaldi’s return
Ed: I haven’t seen Lewis on tour, but we have been speaking a fair bit. I’m really happy for him – I really think that him taking time off was the best thing for him and his health. He has actually come back into it like reinvigorated and really loving it again, which I don’t think he was on his second record.
Scott calls Ed the new Elton John figure in a lot of people’s lives and the new godfather of pop, you are here to give out the good advice to people like Lewis.
On being offered to do a gig from space
Scott tells Ed Sheeran about how Mariah Carey recently said on the Breakfast Show she wouldn’t go to space, and Ed revealed he was offered to do a first gig in space.
Ed: I was offered to go to space a while ago you know. It terrifies me, I want to go to space when it’s like flying to France and 40,000 people have done it and you can just book it online. I don’t want to be a guinea pig for that, because it still is dangerous.
Ed: There are other places on this planet that I would love to see first, I would love to go to Greenland. There are places on this planet I would rather go to than space.
Ed: There was talk about doing a first gig in space, I’m sure lots of people got this email, but yeah it terrifies me. Aw mate I ain’t doing it - I got kids, like I’m not going to risk that for a Guinness World Record something or other. I’m not going to risk my kid’s not having a dad.”
