Indie rock stalwarts The Cribs have officially announced their return, with their first new album in over five years, "Selling A Vibe," set to be released on January 9th, 2026. The news comes alongside the release of the lead single, "Summer Seizures," which received its radio debut from Steve Lamacq on BBC 6 Music.
The band, comprised of brothers Gary, Ryan, and Ross Jarman, spent a significant period apart across three different time zones, leading to a feeling of being stuck on a "release-tour-release-tour treadmill." They decided to step away from music to reconnect as family, a process they believe was crucial for their return. This renewed personal connection has deeply influenced the new album, making it their most open and honest record to date.
Guitarist and vocalist Ryan Jarman shared that "Summer Seizures" was the first song they wrote during the new album sessions, setting the tone for the entire project. He describes the track as a reflection on love, tragedy, and self-acceptance, set against the backdrop of a New York City summer. The accompanying music video, shot on 16mm film by director Andy Knowles, aims for a raw, authentic feel, letting the song and the band's current dynamic speak for themselves.
For this album, the band sought to break away from their typical process. They enlisted producer Patrick Wimberly (known for his work with Solange and MGMT), seeking a more contemporary approach to production and a focus on enhancing the band's pop sensibilities.
Bassist Gary Jarman described "Selling A Vibe" as a deeply personal record, adding, "We don’t want this to be seen as an 'indie rock' record or a 'punk' record... our only hope is that people enjoy and connect with the songs and lyrics for what they are."
To celebrate their return, The Cribs have also announced a UK headline tour for Spring 2026. This comes on the heels of several live dates this year, including a special War Child benefit show and a performance at All Points East in London.
