Joss Stone has revealed that she was once in an "extremely dangerous" abusive relationship.

The singer-songwriter has spoken openly about escaping an abusive relationship, sharing that her career ultimately saved her.

In a video posted on Instagram on Monday, Joss was asked by a follower how to leave an abusive partner, and she responded by recalling her own harrowing experience, without naming her ex.

"I had tried to leave him, I can't tell you how many times," the 38-year-old said of the past relationship. "Each time it felt like it was getting more and more dangerous. One day, he threw me out - surprising how strong he was, he wasn't that tall."

The You Had Me singer went on to describe how her former partner "threw (her) out in the rain" in the middle of the night while she was only wearing a T-shirt.

"He thought that he'd locked the gate and that I was stuck in the driveway, and I didn't know the code to get out," she recalled. "He just thought he'd sort of trapped me in the rain. I did know the code."

After managing to open the gate, Joss decided to run away.

"My feet were killing me, getting ripped up by the b**ody concrete," she continued, adding that her partner chased after her and eventually "dragged" her back to the house.

"Anyway, he did catch me and did tell me that the police were going to come and arrest me and all that stuff. It was all a load of bulls**t."

Reflecting on how she finally escaped, Joss said that it was her work that provided the lifeline she needed because she went on tour and never came back.

"I was able to leave him because I am a touring musician. So, I used to go on the road to do my job," she explained. "I just decided to never go back. That was actually easy. I don't need to be noble and kind and try to break up with him face-to-face. I tried to do that many, many times and it was extremely dangerous."

Joss went on to marry Cody DaLuz in 2023. The couple have four children together.
