Taylor Swift has dropped a major clue about who she has been working with on her upcoming album The Life of a Showgirl.
The Shake It Off singer stunned fans on Monday by announcing her 12th studio album, and she has started dropping clues about what fans can expect from her next project.
Shortly after the announcement, the pop superstar released a Spotify playlist titled "And, baby, that's show business for you." The playlist is a collection of 22 songs, taken from her albums Red, Reputation, 1989 and Red (Taylor's Version).
Eagle-eyed fans swiftly noticed that all of the songs were produced by the same two people - Max Martin and Shellback - and wondered if the Swedish record producers had reunited with Swift on The Life of a Showgirl.
If the theory proves true, it could signal a major departure from her recent musical output and a potential return to mainstream pop.
Martin and Shellback, real name Karl Johan Schuster, helped create major hits such as Shake It Off, We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together, and I Knew You Were Trouble, but have not worked with Swift since 2017's Reputation.
For her follow-up albums, Lover, Folklore, Evermore, Midnights, and last year's The Tortured Poets Department, the 35-year-old primarily worked with Jack Antonoff and Aaron Dessner.
To celebrate Swift's new album cycle, the Empire State Building in New York City lit up orange on Monday night, hinting at the album's colour scheme. On the building's official Instagram account, the caption teases, "Onto the next era."
The Blank Space hitmaker is expected to reveal the album artwork and release date on her boyfriend Travis Kelce's New Heights podcast on Wednesday.
In a preview clip of her first-ever podcast appearance, the singer opens a briefcase and shows off the vinyl cover to Travis's brother Jason; however, the image is currently blurred.
