Machine Gun Kelly has insisted that being "hated for no reason" doesn't bother him.

The rapper and singer has opened up about the criticism he has faced throughout his career, whether for blending genres, writing vulnerable lyrics or discussing his on-off relationship with Megan Fox.

In a new interview with People, MGK, real name Colson Baker, explained that he has learned to shrug off negative comments.

"I became so hated for, what has become apparent to me, no reason . . . just because I artistically express myself, through fashion, music, whatever - because I choose to not stay contained into a societal box," he shared.

The Emo Girl singer, who is currently preparing to release his seventh studio album Lost Americana on Friday, said that criticism has almost become part of his career as a musician.

"The hate for me has become so pop culture that it's almost like that's automatically what you say to fit in," he told the outlet. "That s**t doesn't even mean anything to me. I've let it go completely to where I'm like, 'Oh, that's a joke.'"

MGK continued, "I've realised they're the conformists - you don't even hate me for a reason that you can actually think of because all I do is entertain, and entertainment can't be that serious."

The singer then noted that most of the hate he receives appears to come from men.

"I think people just don't like that I do whatever the f**k I want, and it's a reflection of them not being able to do whatever they want," he continued. "I think men let their insecurity rule their entirety."

Elsewhere in the interview, MGK said that he hopes that his haters will understand him better after listening to his new album.

"Maybe this time," he says of his critics, "they'll get to know the man-slash-broken-boy behind the moniker MGK."
