The Jonas Brothers have recalled how uncomfortable they felt being quizzed about their sex lives as teenagers.

The trio - Kevin, Joe and Nick - reflected on the downsides of finding fame so young during an appearance on Penn Badgley's Podcrushed podcast on Thursday.

Much was made of the siblings' decision to wear purity rings, showing their commitment to remaining celibate until marriage, but Joe has now insisted it wasn't that unusual in his community.

"Famously we were known for like purity rings," the Disney Channel star recalled. "Which were something in the community of a church where that was like what everybody else our age were doing around 10, 11 years old, like, we're going to wait for the right person."

Joe also revealed that the public interest in the purity rings became so great that they felt forced into discussing personal lifestyle choices, rather than their career.

"One person on an interview when you're 15, 16 would ask you about it," the 35-year-old star explained. "And you're like, 'I don't want to talk about this,' and then they're like, 'Well, I'm going to write that you guys are in a cult.'"

The brothers signed a record deal when Kevin was 17, Joe was 15 and Nick was just 12.

While the siblings faced a barrage of invasive questions during their teenage years, Nick has insisted he's glad to see things have improved for the latest batch of young pop stars.

"I think it's really a good thing," Nick, 32, shared as he discussed how interviews have changed. "Where it would be like so outside of the realm of possibilities or something someone would do to ask at that time a 14-year-old about their sex life."
